So, the first official Murray Avenue Procrastination Society met yesterday. And after much shenanigans, the Notorious L.A.V. and I finally met at the 61C. We traded poems and stories and gave each other effective critiques. I handed her an old story called Lady Katherine and the Captain. Now, keep in mind that I didn't have the time to read this story before I handed it over to her. So, I only had a vague recollection of what I wrote.
No, that's not true. I had the time, but I just felt too embarrassed to read it.
Anyway, according to her she had a lot of fun reading it. And that there was enough there to work with it. And apparently? I've been obsessed with Gothic literature since I was at least fifteen. I asked her to give me a more detailed critique and she will oblige me. It'll be two weeks before I get it back though, which I don't mind. I'm working on a piece in the meantime that originally came out as Mamet minus the vast amounts of cursing. It was originally for NPR's Three Minute Fiction contest, but I wanted to continue working on it rather than submitting it for the competition.
Oh, and I also gave her The Janey Edition. She loved it as well. Plus, she said something that made me go, what the hell? She said, that I ventured off from the short story style and into novel territory.
Huh? What? Stop the presses!
She's also giving me a more detailed critique on it as well. So, that's another two weeks.
Yeah, I'm a little excited.
Now, I'm off to re-read the pirate story...Oh? I didn't mention that the story from 1993 (when I was 15) was apparently a Gothic pirate story? Well, apparently, it was. ;)
